2 weeks to go! I repeat... 2 weeks to go!

Weekly Rating: 4.5 out of 5

This week was another really great week. I really can't complain! My parent night took place which was just an absolute success! I'm so pleased!

    • Observe: What pleasant surprises / accomplishments did I achieve this week?

My parent night really fell into place! We had a really great turn out with a lot of positive feedback! There were people from the central office there to check it out, and it actually made it to the Henderson County School website! Go check it out! http://www.hendersoncountypublicschoolsnc.org

    • Reflect: What lessons did my work/experiences teach me that I will build upon next week?

Just have confidence and own what you are doing! Your kids know when you are confident and enjoying yourself!

    • Focus:  How are my short-term efforts and my long-term goals still aligned?
Again, my short and long term goals are aligned. I need to finalize all of my edTPA things, finish my portfolio, and continue to push my kids!

    • Be Productive: What could I have spent more or less time doing?

      PORTFOLIO. edTPA. enough said.

    • Have Courage:  How did apprehension and indecision impact what I did and didn’t do?

I had a lot of courage at my parent night! I felt confident in running the night and being there for the parents. However, I was a little apprehensive at a professional development meeting this week. I didn't speak up and share as much as I would have liked. I felt overwhelmed by the number of people sharing, but next time I want to take that step!

    • Begin Anew: What is the first logical step(s) for next week? What mental clutter can I clear?

      edTPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • What were some data you analyzed this week and how did it help inform your instructional decisions?

I analyzed the evaluation forms from the parent night to see how parents received the overall night. It was a hit!

      • What is one piece of advice you can share with other student teachers?

My advice: Make sure that you have some sort of set long term plan. It helps!

  • What components of your portfolio have you started to complete?

I have began working on most all of the portions at this point.

  • What support does your clinical educator need from your university supervisor?
  • What support do you need from your university supervisor?

No current support needed. Thanks for staying in constant contact with us, Dr. Sanders! Your feedback, encouragement, and support is appreciated!

NC Teacher Candidate Standards

Standard 1
Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school.
PARENT NIGHT! BINGO! It was great and I definitely was embracing this leadership role.

Standard 2
Teachers work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students.
By implementing my parent night, I was able to spend some quality time with the families of my students and lead them in the right direction.

Standard 3
Teachers make instruction relevant to students.
I really embraced the unit for this week and used it to connect with the students! For example, we were learning about weather this week. On Friday we read "It Looked Like Spilt Milk". We then when on a walk and looked at the clouds and talked about what we saw in the clouds. The kids loved it!
Standard 4
Teachers integrate and utilize technology.
During instruction this week, I used the SmartBoard to show a variety of pictures to show different types of weather and let students sort through the pictures. It was very interactive and fun!

Standard 5
Teachers function effectively in a complex, dynamic environment.
The week ended up being a little crazy, but you learn to roll with the punches and keep trucking on. You have to think quickly and not give the kids enough time to loose track of things .

  1. Lauren, I have watched this parent night develop from the beginning with you and can I just say how really proud of you I am? I mean think about what you have accomplished and not only did you do it, you did it really well. I am so proud of you and am so glad it went well- I looked at the pictures and teared up a little because of how far we have come together! It is truly amazing. I am so glad to be able to keep up with you, your growth, and your progress each week as well as share mine with you- I only wish we could teach on the same team one day! Love you, Lauren!
